Big news for Quantic Gaming and players Theognis and Agh. In a top heavy, 36-player qualifying bracket with a field that included powerhouse-players like Liquid’s Ret, Col.Drewbie and EG.Machine, a lesser known Theognis made a statement taking 1st place in IEM’s second American Qualifier without dropping a series, while Quantic-counterpart Agh took 4th. Both of whom earned spots in tomorrow’s 16-player American Qualifier Championship Bracket.
Both Theognis and Agh aim to battle their way through the unforgiving field of 16 in hopes of each attaining one of three highly coveted qualifying spots which sends its recipients to the IEM Global Challenge in Sao Paulo: a major tournament boasting a prize purse of over $20,000. With StarCraft-titans like ViOlet, QXC, and DeMusliM standing in the way, it will be no easy feat – a sentiment reflected in Theognis’ statements after the tournament:
“I’m super excited I won the U.S. Qualifier to seed me into the American Championship Bracket…the Qualifier was a very tough and exhausting tournament with a lot of skilled players and I’m relieved I made it through. I’ve been putting a lot of effort into my practice recently and I’m glad it’s finally paying off; but I know there’s a long road ahead of me with even more difficult opponents. I’ve been preparing hard for tomorrow and I hope I get the opportunity to attend what will be my first international competition.”
Theognis will kick off tomorrow’s tournament in a match against Complexity Gaming’s TriMaster while Agh is scheduled to play EG.DeMusliM. The event will be streamed & commentated by Quantic's own Axeltoss at 8pm Eastern Standard Time and can be seen here: twitch.tv/Axeltoss
